Historically, in India, Khadi has been a symbol of economic self-sufficiency and self-reliance resuscitated from near extinction by the Swadesi Movement.
The Peti- charkha, or the box charkha, is one such device. It’s compact, its easy to transport, and perfect for women in households with spatial restrictions. The downside however is that, it is much more labour intensive as a process although the resultant textile has unmatched durability and tenacity.
